RAY N. FREDRICK III, CO-FOUNDER
Ray N. Fredrick IIICo-Founder
Ray Fredrick is currently an Assistant Professor at Queens College, City University of New York. Ray earned his Ed.D. and M.A. degrees in Curriculum and Teaching in Physical Education from the Teachers College, Columbia University. While studying at Columbia, Ray directed several afterschool programs at private, public, and cultural institutions in Manhattan. He earned his B.S. in Political Science from the United State Military Academy (USMA) at West Point where he played varsity basketball and served as a captain during his senior season.
He holds a professional New York State Teaching Certificate in Physical Education. He has taught physical education at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. In addition, he has taught and coached on the collegiate level. He has published and presented nationally on teaching and learning in urban settings. He is an active member of several professional associations including the American Education Research Association (AERA). |
ANDREY YOFFE, CO-FOUNDER
Andrey YoffeCo-Founder
Andrey A. Yoffe currently serves in an investment banking role at Barclays Capital, focused on the Aerospace and Defense industry. Andrey has been at Barclays since 2014 and has over 7 years of investment banking experience.
Previously, Andrey founded a local activities start-up company with a focus on stimulating activeness and healthy social interaction in people’s lives. Andrey completed his bachelor’s degree in finance and international business from the Stern School of Business at New York University. |
RISTO MARTTINEN, DIRECTOR OF REACH
Risto MarttinenDirector of REACH
Risto Marttinen is currently an Assistant Professor at George Mason University. He obtained his Bachelors degree in Health Science and his Masters Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton where he also spent three years as an assistant professor prior to his time at Mason. Risto received his doctorate in curriculum and teaching in physical education from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. In New York, he taught physical education at Teachers College Community School in Harlem and ran after-school programming at Mosaic Prep and P.S. 50.
Risto’s background includes college wrestling for Fullerton’s Division I wrestling program where he was the Team Captain. Subsequently, he became head assistant coach where he was in charge of recruiting. Risto has directed the last four years of REACH. Programs currently are active in Fullerton, CA, Fairfax, VA, and Caaguazu, Paraguay. Risto oversees Mason undergraduate and graduate students who deliver the REACH sessions at our partner schools. |
REACH Coaches
Anthony VillanuevaAnthony graduated Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) Cum Laude with a BS in Kinesiology and a BA in Ethnic Studies. Anthony is currently working as a student teaching associate in the kinesiology graduate program at CSUF and is expected to graduate in 2018.
As a teaching associate, he teaches kinesiology physical activity classes and assists Dr. Risto Marttinen in his research on the Reflective Educational Approach to Character and Health (REACH) after school program. His research interest includes community health, youth development, and ethnic minority trends in resistance training. |
Richelleann AcainRichelleann Acain is a current undergraduate Kinesiology major concentrating in Teacher Education at California State University, Fullerton. While on campus, Richelleann is the President of CSUF’s Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Club and an Office Assistant at the university’s Housing and Residential Engagement Department.
Outside of her work in school, she is a volunteer coach and undergraduate research assistant for Dr. Risto Marttinen’s REACH project which aims to promote lifelong physical activity and good character development in an after school setting. Within REACH Richelleann is also working with Brianna’s GIRL (Gaining Insight through Reflective Learning) Curriculum in hopes to improve girls’ perceptions of their bodies. Richelleann’s goal for the future is to pursue an M.S. in Kinesiology and delve into more research in the world of pedagogy. |
Brianna MezaBrianna graduated with her B.S. in Kinesiology from CSUF, and is currently pursuing her M.S. in Kinesiology from CSUF. While on campus, Brianna works as a teaching associate instructing an aerobic exercise course. In addition, she aids her advisor, Dr. Risto Marttinen, in his research for REACH. Within REACH, Brianna is also conducting her own research as a part of her Master's thesis. Her research is centered on the implementation of the GIRL (Gaining Insight through Reflective Learning) curriculum, which aims to empower young girls. The GIRL curriculum activities engage girls in critical analysis of society's representation of the female body in hopes to improve girls' perceptions of their body.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Mitchell ClaytonMitchell Clayton is a Vice President and Portfolio Analyst on Lazard Asset Management’s Alternative Emerging Markets investment team. She has worked in the financial services industry for 13 years.
Mitch is a native New Yorker. As a power forward at Hunter College High School, she was named to the New York Newsday All-Manhattan 2nd team. She has served as coach, instructor, and referee in the Safe Haven West Side Basketball League, the neighborhood league in which she played as a girl. In addition, she plays in several regular pick-up basketball games. |
